How to Build a Personal Brand That Shines- Part 1
How to Build a Personal Brand That Rocks
When you hear the word ‘brand’, you probably think of businesses like Apple, Microsoft, T-Mobile or Coca-Cola. These are some of the biggest brands in the world and people have pretty good ideas of what to expect from their products and services. We know what their logos look like and we understand what their guiding principles are.
What about Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres and Beyonce? How about Steve Harvey?
These people have personal brands that shine.
We know their names and we recognize their signature looks. We also know what they’re all about and what their ‘mission statement’ is.
They have managed to turn themselves into brands just like the above-mentioned companies. Through their personal personas, they have developed the same amount of recognition, trust and exposure as traditional consumer brands.
With effort, you can do the same!
How to Become a Personal Brand
If you want to make your own personal brand that rocks, all you need to do is to put yourself at the forefront of your marketing campaign, web design and message. If you happen to be a Makeup Artist, you might name your website MelissaDoesMakeup.com and have a photo of yourself prominently displayed. You can then tell people about you, what service you provide and why they should trust you.
This, of course, means that you need to be willing to expose yourself to a large audience. It also means in many ways, you need to strive to become the embodiment of the message you’re selling. For example, if you’re a health and fitness guru then your real life image needs to reflect a healthy lifestyle.
One of the main advantages of having a personal brand is it makes social media considerably easier. Once you have a personal brand, your audience will want to know you personally. That means you can treat them almost as you would your own friends and that you can post the kind of content that they may also find relevant.
Rather than needing to find exciting industry news, it would be okay to post about your lunch – especially if your blog is about healthy eating. Also, maintaining an Instagram account can become as simple as posting images of your day from your phone camera with the appropriate hashtags. The type of content will vary from niche to niche, but the point is to let people see that you’re human and trustworthy.
Collectively, these strategies will help you build trust and familiarity with your audience.
